Botox Injections Miami, FL, At Imagos Plastic Surgery

Fight wrinkles and other signs of aging with Botox® injection from Imagos Plastic Surgery

Life is full of emotions—excitement, concern, confusion, sadness, happiness, etc.—each of which we express with our faces. Unfortunately, after years and years of making the same expressions, you may start to see imprints of them even when your face is at rest. These imprints can come in the form of worry lines along the forehead, parallel lines between the eyebrows, lines on the corners of each eye, and parentheses lines around the mouth. While we should never stop expressing ourselves, we also don’t need to live with them stamped on our faces at all times.

Botox injections with a board-certified plastic surgeon (Dr. Perez-Gurri or Dr. Onelio Garcia) in Miami, FL, is an ideal treatment for anyone who wants to treat the dynamic wrinkles that are beginning to show on their once smooth skin. Botox injections are incredibly versatile, pain-less, immediate, and require zero downtime. You can run in for a treatment on your lunch break and be back to work without visible signs of treatment.

What Is Botox?

Botox is an injectable solution that doctors have used for years to treat wrinkles and fight facial creases. Botox is a brand name for a neuromodulator that is created using the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. There are some brands similar to Botox, such as Dysport® and Xeomin®, but Botox is the term that you hear most often because it is the brand that is most often used and was the very first injectable botulinum toxin.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles so that the injected muscle can no longer contract and cause wrinkles. When the muscles temporarily cease contracting, the wrinkles smooth out, and lines soften, making the facial skin appear softer and far less aged. Dr. Perez-Gurri and Dr. Garcia inject Botox directly into the muscles that are causing the dynamic wrinkles. For frown lines, they might target specific muscles in the forehead. For crow’s feet, they will treat the muscle on either side of your eyes. The injections are highly tolerable, but a topical anesthetic can be used to eliminate any discomfort.

Many patients who are looking for a more “lifted” look will combine their Botox treatment with dermal fillers. If this is something you’re interested in, we can discuss the best options for you based on your skin type, facial features, and aesthetic goals.

What Can Botox Be Used to Treat?

Cosmetically, Botox facial injections are used to help improve the appearance of:

  • Forehead lines
  • Bunny lines (wrinkles and lines that form when you scrunch your nose)
  • Drooping brow
  • Crow’s feet
  • Frown lines
  • Smile lines
  • Parallel lines (worry lines) between the brows

Who Are Good Candidates for Botox® Injections?

Most people are good candidates for Botox. During your consultation, Dr. Perez-Gurri or Dr. Garcia will ask about your medical history or history of skin conditions, any medication you’re currently on, and any allergies that you might have in order to avoid any unforeseen complications. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant soon or those who are breastfeeding should postpone their Botox injections until their delivery or once their baby is fully weaned.

How Is a Botox Treatment Done?

Botox injections only take a few minutes. You don’t need anesthesia, as the needle used to inject the solution is incredibly tiny. Dr. Perez-Gurri or Dr. Garcia will inject Botox into specific muscles that cause wrinkles to form in the skin. Before your treatment, you will have a conversation with your expert injector to clarify exactly what areas you want to treat. Then, the site will be marked so that every injection is delivered with precision.

It generally takes about 7 to 14 days to see the full effects of Botox. It’s important that after your treatments, you protect your skin from the sun, as the sun’s damaging rays can harm not only your skin but also your Botox results. It would be best if you also avoided strenuous activities for the first couple of days to allow your skin a chance to heal and the Botox to settle.

How Long Do Botox Results Last?

The effects of Botox can last from 3 to 6 months. As muscle action slowly returns, the lines and wrinkles will begin to reappear and need to be treated again. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are shrinking, and the skin hasn’t been forced into the repetitive movements for some time, allowing time to heal and mend.
