Achieve Facial Harmony
Achieve Facial Harmony
Why Chin Implant Surgery?
For many people, the shape or structure of their chin is the source of low self-esteem, since a well-defined jawline structure is the cornerstone of a balanced and attractive face, whether male or female. A chin implant can provide more balance to your facial features.
The Benefits of
Chin Implant Surgery
Harmonious Facial Features
Chin augmentation, also known as mentoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure that improves the structure of the chin and creates a more balanced, harmonious facial appearance. Many patients have this procedure done in tandem with other facial procedures, such as a rhinoplasty.
Defined Neck and Jawline
Having a prominent and defined jawline is one of the most valued facial features in society’s perception of beauty. By extending the chin profile, the skin is then stretched and filled, which creates a more defined and noticeable neck and jawline. It will add strength to a weak or recessed chin by providing more projection.
Have Realistic Expectations
When it comes to ensuring patient satisfaction, the most important factor is having a clear and realistic expectation prior to undergoing the procedure. With any plastic surgery, there is no guarantee that a perfect result will be achieved, but all attempts and efforts will be made by Dr. Perez-Gurri and Dr. Garcia to satisfy reasonable requests and goals.
While the results of the procedure are long lasting, the effects of gravity and aging will still occur, which could change the results of the procedure over a long period of time.
During Your Consultation
It is important to recognize that every appearance and aesthetic goal is different, so every surgery will require a different approach. Dr. Perez-Gurri or Dr. Garcia will make a recommendation based on his professional experience. Skin elasticity, chin structure, and tissue availability are all factors that are considered to reach this recommendation.
We encourage you to ask questions about the procedure and what you can realistically hope to achieve, as there seems to be a direct relationship between reasonable patient expectation and patient satisfaction. We will answer any questions and provide additional resources to further educate you on the procedure.
During the Procedure
Mentoplasty can be performed with general anesthesia and results in no external scarring. A small incision will be made inside the lower lip in order to insert the small silicone prosthesis. The implant will be carefully selected to fit the patient’s desired aesthetic goal.
For three days following the procedure, you will need to remain on a liquid-only diet. Pain medication will be provided, but it is recommended that you have someone close to you controlling the medications to prevent dosage issues.
Typically, most patients can return to work or other obligations after seven days. If your work requires strenuous activities, you may need a few more days to recover. After six weeks, exercise may be continued, but it is important to check with us prior to resuming. The recovery period will be determined by the doctor if other procedures, such as a rhinoplasty, are added to this surgery.
Since the incision is made inside the mouth near the bottom lip, there is no noticeable scarring as a result of this procedure.
The cost of chin implant surgery varies based on your individual procedure, but Dr. Garcia or Dr. Perez-Gurri will be able to provide you with an estimated cost during your consultation.
During the first 28 to 48 hours following the surgery, it is normal to experience tightness and discomfort in the operated area. While you will be allowed to go home after the surgery, you should lie in bed with your head in the upright position. It is also important to keep your chin taped and to apply ice compresses to help reduce swelling and bruising, which will peak within 48 to 72 hours after the surgery.
Q: Does smoking affect my mentoplasty results?
Multiple studies have shown that smoking has an adverse effect on tissues and will often delay healing. We ask that you stop smoking for two to three weeks prior to your surgery. Although this will not prevent all adversities on your healing, it will likely improve pulmonary function.
Q: How long does the procedure take to perform?
It will take approximately 45 to 60 minutes. However, it may take longer depending on how many procedures are performed in conjunction with the mentoplasty.
Q: What does a chin implant look like?
Chin implants are small, solid devices made from a biocompatible material, usually silicone, that has been molded to fit around a patient’s chin bone. Chin implants vary in size and contour. Dr. Perez-Gurri and Dr. Garcia will help you choose a custom implant that will achieve your desired degree of enhancement and provide the most natural-looking result.
Q: Is my mentoplasty result permanent?
The normal processes of aging and gravity that cause continued laxity of the tissues can eventually lead to future tissue sagging and may affect the position of your chin as you age.
Q: Will I be very swollen and bruised?
Every patient will be different. However, most patients will experience moderate swelling and minor bruising following their mentoplasty. Swelling usually reaches its peak during the first 48 to 72 hours following your surgery.
