Improve Your Profile with Rhinoplasty

Being unhappy with the appearance of your nose can negatively impact your confidence and self-image. For example, a disproportionately sized nose may create an unbalanced facial appearance, and nasal humps or wide bridges may lead to a shape that is less than desirable.

Fortunately, rhinoplasty with Imagos Plastic Surgery is a safe, effective, and permanent method of improving the size and shape of the nose for a more attractive facial appearance.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Also referred to as “nose surgery,” a “nose job,” or “nose reshaping surgery,” rhinoplasty is a complex plastic surgery procedure in which a qualified surgeon carefully and meticulously reshapes the nose to achieve the patient’s desired appearance. While there are different approaches to rhinoplasty, Dr. Perez-Gurri prefers the closed rhinoplasty method. Closed nose surgery is not as invasive as open rhinoplasty, meaning it often offers a shorter recovery period, minimal scarring, less swelling after surgery, and additional patient benefits.

What are the Benefits of Rhinoplasty?

A nose that you think is too large can draw unwanted attention to the center of your face. Rhinoplasty surgery can remove excess cartilage to reshape your nose and create a smaller nasal profile. This process can improve the look of a “beak-like” nose that is often associated with a drooping nasal tip.

Wide or prominent nasal humps, which often result from a broken nose, can prevent your nose from having that attractive streamlined look that is popular among many people. Dr. Perez-Gurri can sculpt the nasal bridge to achieve a slimmer—and often daintier—nose.

A prominent nose can foster disharmony among your facial features. A nose that is too large can make other aspects of your face appear too small or poorly placed in comparison, while a nose that is too small can make other features appear too large. Improving the size and shape of your nose can achieve better facial balance.

Dr. Perez-Gurri is a recognized talent in the Miami area as a rhinoplasty surgeon. He carefully sculpts the nose to maintain balanced features. The goal of any rhinoplasty is to achieve natural-looking results that enhance your facial features without letting anyone know you underwent surgery.

What Can I Expect During Rhinoplasty Recovery?

As rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure, you will go home the same day. You will rest with your head elevated, and nasal packing will cause you to breathe through your mouth for several days. Bruising and swelling, which are normal, will reach their peak in around 48 to 72 hours. This will gradually subside over the next few weeks. Most patients require seven to 14 days of recovery before returning to school or work or driving on their own. You may be able to resume strenuous activity after six weeks.

Why Should I Choose Imagos Plastic Surgery for Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Here at Imagos Plastic Surgery, we want our patients to understand that they will receive far more than they would at a plastic surgery clinic when they partner with us. We are here to provide you with the highest quality service, experience, and results possible, and to accomplish this, we prioritize:

  • Communication — This is a crucial element of the surgeon-patient relationship. We strive to establish open communication with each and every patient before, on, and after your surgery date.
  • Honesty — We strive for honesty during every step of the process. We value your health, safety, and well-being above all and will only recommend procedures that we feel would be beneficial to you.
  • Empathy — We realize how courageous a patient must be to reach the decision to undergo elective aesthetic surgery. We will do everything we can to educate you, make you feel heard, and let you have a say in every step of the process.
  • Time — While many clinics will have you only meet with a patient coordinator in rushed appointments, at Imagos, you will meet directly with your surgeon for your consultation and follow-up appointments after surgery.

Miami Rhinoplasty FAQ

As with any surgical procedure, rhinoplasty can have some risks and complications, some of which may include:

  • Contour deformities
  • Keloid or hypertrophic scars
  • Asymmetries
  • Nasal congestion/difficulty breathing
  • Hematoma
  • Persistent swelling
  • Pigmentary changes of the skin
  • Loss of tissue
  • Inability to differentiate smells

Our Miami rhinoplasty surgeons are highly experienced and do everything within their means to minimize the chance of complications.

General anesthesia is administered during the surgery.

Many parents would like to help their child look their best, especially if they are faced with negative comments from their peers. However, rhinoplasty shouldn’t be performed on nasal structures that are still developing because there can be additional changes in the nose following surgery. Most teens have fully developed facial features around 15 to 17 years of age, but this can vary among children. It’s best to consult with a qualified plastic surgeon before considering teen rhinoplasty.

Patients may experience some pain and discomfort from swelling and bruising. Prescription pain medication can be administered to alleviate any post-surgical discomfort.

The cost of rhinoplasty can vary depending on the surgeon’s experience, the extent of the procedure, and the geographic location of the surgery. For this reason, you will need to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to see what the procedure would cost you. Our team will provide you with a detailed cost breakdown after you have met with one of our surgeons.

The visibility of your scarring is dependent on the technique used. A closed technique places all incisions within the nasal passages and conceals all resulting scars. An open technique utilizes a small incision at the outer base of the nose, which may scar slightly. However, this is likely to fade over time.

When performed by a highly qualified surgeon, rhinoplasty can:

  • Straighten a crooked nose
  • Reduce excessive nasal tip projection
  • Refine or reduce a bulbous nasal tip
  • Correct nasal tip asymmetry
  • Reduce width of the nose
  • Improve a nose that’s too large for your face
  • Reduce the length of the nose
  • Correct a nasal bump
  • Fix a previous rhinoplasty procedure (revision rhinoplasty)

Dr. Perez-Gurri recommends rhinoplasty patients sleep on their backs, preferably in an elevated position. This sleeping position helps reduce post-op swelling and cuts down on the congestion that usually occurs after surgery. In addition, sleeping on your side is not recommended, as besides producing discomfort, it can put pressure on your nose and compromise the aesthetic results.

Patients can shower 48 hours after the rhinoplasty. It’s essential to keep the cast dry while you shower, so you can try covering it with a cloth or plastic wrap. Until you can wash your hair, try using dry shampoo or something similar to keep your hair fresh and shiny. We also advise you to use warm water (not hot!) for the first two weeks.

Sneezing or blowing your nose after rhinoplasty may cause discomfort, bleeding, or (while rare) more serious issues, so patients should try to avoid this hazard for at least two weeks. We understand this might be difficult, so we advise patients to keep their house clean and dust-free and avoid catching colds or the flu. If you need to sneeze (after all, it’s a body reflex), try doing it with your mouth wide open to minimize the impact on your nose.

Unfortunately, wearing makeup is not advisable after surgery. Patients might feel tempted to cover up facial bruises or scars, but we recommend waiting at least until the stitches are removed. Makeup can interrupt the healing of soft tissues, negatively affecting the final results of the surgery.

Absolutely. In fact, it’s advisable – light exercise helps control heart rate and blood circulation. However, patients must avoid strenuous physical activity for at least four to six weeks. After surgery, your nose is too delicate, and any minor impact can permanently alter your new nose contours.
