WHAT GOES ON DURING A MOMMY MAKEOVER?

Although having children is one of life’s most precious gifts, the aftermath of pregnancy can leave a woman with an undesired physical appearance. Even after losing the baby weight, many women are left with a body that they feel has gone through an exhaustive transformation. Some people have heard the term “Mommy Makeover” and know many mothers opt for this procedure after having children. Although they know the general idea of the procedure, they often wonder what exactly can be achieved with a Mommy Makeover?

The Physical Changes Of Childbirth

Having a baby is life-changing enough, and adding to the experience, the body physically alters itself for a developing fetus. During pregnancy, the belly starts to expand, and the weight starts to pack on slowly as the baby grows. After pregnancy, the body is entirely different from before. Commonly, women notice that their breasts have lost volume and are sagging, that their stomach muscles are weak, that the abdomen has a “pooch” with sagging skin and stretch marks, and that excess fat is stubbornly clinging throughout their bodies.

Mommy Makeover Procedures

A Mommy Makeover involves a tummy tuck, breast procedure and liposuction in some cases. These procedures are designed to reverse the aftermath of childbirth and restore a woman’s body. By undergoing this combination of procedures, women can rejuvenate their appearance. Many women undergo a Mommy Makeover and achieve results that eliminate nearly all evidence of pregnancy or childbirth.

Tummy Tuck Surgery

To correct weak abdominal muscles and loose, hanging skin from the lower abdomen, tummy tuck surgery can be performed. Typically, an incision is made from hipbone to hipbone just above the pubic area. The abdominal muscles are repaired and tightened, excess fat and skin are removed, and the remaining skin is pulled down and sutured. Stretch marks on the lower abdomen will be removed if they are on the excess skin that is removed. Patients can expect to achieve a slimmer, better-contoured abdomen in addition to losing inches from their waistline.

Liposuction

Liposuction is designed to remove excess fat from specific areas of the body. Dr. Perez-Gurri and Dr. Garcia utilizes the PAL and Vasser liposuction techniques. An injection of a solution that consists of saline, a local anesthetic, and adrenaline is administered to help break up the fat before removal. A small incision is made in the target area, and a tiny hollow tube (cannula) is used to suction out the fat.

Liposuction is not meant to be a weight-loss method; it is performed to remove stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. Patients should be at or near their ideal weight before undergoing this procedure.

Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift, and/or Breast Reduction

The breasts can be corrected with breast enhancement surgery. Depending on the issue a woman would like to address, breast augmentation surgery, breast lift surgery, and/or breast reduction surgery can be performed. A breast augmentation can help a woman to regain volume through the insertion of saline or silicone breast implants. Breast lift surgery is performed to lift and reshape sagging breasts. A breast reduction removes breast tissue and fat, and reposition and reshapes the breast. In many cases, breast augmentation and breast lift surgery are performed together to increase breast size while also correcting sagging breasts.
